What Is the Internet of People?
The internet is continuously giving us the capability to access almost anything, from easily interacting with different people from around the world, pay bills, and generate income. In fact, there are 5.16 billion users that Statista has recorded as of January 2023. This is 64.4% of the world’s total population, which explains the power that internet can bring to the people. But as much as we make the internet part of our daily essentials, is it really ours?
Internet of People
The Internet of People, or IoP for short, is a decentralized technology infrastructure where the users have complete control of their digital identity and any kind of data they share. In this way, there can be a more secure and private online experience, and efficient transactions.
Currently our data is collected through the apps we use and websites we visit. With IoP, users have the power to choose which information they want to share and who they want to share it with. Individuals will be able to utilize technology to communicate with other people regardless of their location or background.
The people being connected to one another is limited by internet service providers, routers, and servers. Not to mention that it is being controlled by a few conglomerates. Accessing social networking sites is not actually free. Rather, it comes with a cost, which is the collection of your personal data. The information that these companies learned about you, your friends, and family, will be sold to other interested parties without your consent. In addition, since these enormous companies store loads of data, they become prone to hacks, making your personal data unsafe.
Internet of People gives back the control of personal data to the people. You can enjoy data privacy when creating a profile and choose what personal information you want to share to the public. It is important to note that data privacy does not, in any way, suggest to leave the social media platforms we are using today. It simply means providing a different approach that will put users and their data first.
LFi and IoP
LFi utilizes IoP’s concept to its ecosystem, where it is an open infrastructure that gives developers freedom to innovate. Moreover, it enables device-to-device, people-to-people, and company-to-people interactions without going through intermediaries. To participate in LFi’s IoP system, users need to acquire LFi hardware.
